  • What determines regional differences in outpatient antimicrobial consumption in Russian Federation?

    A. Fokin, S. Ratchina, S. Kozlov, I. Gudkov, A. Ishmukhametov, M. Denisova

Antimicrobial consumption level depends on many factors described in foreign studies: demographic, cultural, socio-economic indices etc.
Taking into consideration big population, regions territorial remoteness, distinct antimicrobials usage practice, different morbidity indices, huge number of pharmaceutical companies and lack of efficient regulation of their activities it is therefore essential to conduct such studies in Russian Federation.
To compare outpatient antimicrobial consumption in different regions of Russian Federation in 2004-2006 and investigate socio-economic determinants of antimicrobial consumption.

  • Susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus nosocomial isolates in Russia: five years trends

    A. Dekhnich, A. Nikulin, N. Ivanchik, O. Kretchikova, R. Kozlov, RosNet Study Group

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important pathogens that cause infections in hospitalized patients throughout the world. The resistance of this microorganism in both community and hospital settings to multiple antimicrobials is becoming more and more common. Treatment of infections caused by methicillin-resistant strains of S. aureus (MRSA) is one of the main problems of antimicrobial therapy in terms of resistance of this pathogen to all β-lactams and to many other classes of antimicrobials. Such resistance leads to increased mortality and to decrease in cost-effectiveness of treatment. Therefore appropriate initial antimicrobial therapy based on data of local susceptibility pattern is cruicial for outcome. The aim of the study was to evaluate antimicrobial susceptibility trends of nosocomial S. aureus strains in different regions of Russia.

  • Susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus in the community settings in Russia

    A. Nikulin, A. Dekhnich, N. Ivanchik, R. Kozlov, RosNet Study Group

Growing antibacterial resistance of Staphylococcus aureus in the community is an emerging problem. Though surveillance of spread and resistance of these strains is performed in some countries, it is done for first time in Russia. The aim was to evaluate antimicrobial susceptibility of S. aureus in the community in different regions of Russia.

  • Ten-years resistance trends of nosocomial Acinetobacter spp. in Russia

    A. Martinovich, N. Ivanchik, O. Kretchikova, G. Reshedko, E. Riabkova, M. Edelstein, R. Kozlov

Acinetobacters, particularly A. baumannii, are now one of the most frequently encountered nosocomial pathogens, and are renowned for being difficult to treat because of resistance to most antibiotics. In Russia, the prevalence of Acinetobacter spp. among all Gram-negative nosocomial pathogens increased from 7.3% in 1997-99 to 15.0% in 2006-07. The aim of this study was to assess the trends in antimicrobial resistance of nosocomial Acinetobacter spp. in Russia over the period of 1997-2007.
